The term ‘city car’ often refers to small, compact vehicles that are easy to drive and park in tight spots. Because of their small size, their versatility and their convenient prices they are the vehicle of choice for millions of drivers. Take a look at our top 5 city cars for leasing:
You’ll have seen the striking Fiat 500 on the street since its relaunch back in 2008. It’s proved tremendously popular; sales in the UK reached over 38,000 last year. Its design is incredibly fashionable, timeless and with a retro feel (it was originally launched in 1957!). This car is destined to be loved for many years to come. It’s surprisingly roomy inside, despite its compact size, easy to drive and offers great tech add ons. It’s the perfect car for those who love fun, style and easy city driving.
While it is the perfect vehicle for the fashion-oriented city drivers, it isn’t necessarily the best choice for those who love long distance driving. The Fiat 500’s engine range is very wide, starting with a 68bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine and reaching a top speed of 99 mph. This is perfect for the city’s streets, but less so for the motorway. The 1.2 litre petrol engine emits 110g/km of CO2, Tax band B. While this might be worrying for some, the 2016 Eco version model is incredibly efficient with less than 100g/km of CO2 emitted and free UK road tax.
The latest Kia Picanto is a great looking and functional model. It is an easy to drive car, with great tech add ons such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and an unrivalled 7 years warranty.
With a 84 bhp and a 1.25 litre engine, an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 10.9 seconds, it is as comfortable in the city as well as in the motorway, outperforming many city cars. Its 100g/km of CO2 emissions also mean it enjoys free UK road tax.
It’s also incredibly frugal returning up to 64.2 mpg and with prices starting from £9450, it’s the logical choice for legions of budget conscious motorists.
With incredibly cheap running costs and great performance and usability, the Citroen C1 is a fantastic city car choice. It’s also a ideal for those who want to add a personal touch to their cars - as Citroen offers a wide range of personalisation options.
The 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech engine makes it easily driven in the city as well as the motorway. It also enjoys free UK road tax by emitting less than 100g/km of CO2. The boot and rear seat space is somewhat limited, however, making it better suited to the young, free and single rather than family motoring.
It’s the recent winner of What Car’s ‘Best City Car’ Award and it is easy to see why. It sports great style, versatility, price and is really easy to drive. The interior is surprisingly spacious for its small size and it is in a low tax band because of its low CO2 emissions.
The Hyundai i10 2017 edition is available with a choice of 1.0 litre or 1.2 litre petrol engines with a five-speed manual transmission and the possibility to opt for a four-speed automatic with the 1.2 engine.
Add to that a 5 year warranty and prices that start from £8995 and you’ve got a budget motoring winner!
The Vauxhall Viva is one of the only city cars with five seats instead of four, making it very spacious for its size. It also has fantastic specification - all models have kit such as tyre pressure monitoring, lane departure warning, cruise control and front fog lights as standard.
Only one engine is available but with a choice of 4 trim levels. The entry-level 1.0-litre SE model is priced from £9,765 with the top-spec SL priced at £11,265. Great prices for such a high specification car.
Its CO2 emissions of 104g/km mean the car is cheap to tax. The 1.0-litre petrol engine accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 13.1 seconds, making it a relatively fast car, even if it isn’t the quietest.
